Serie C 23/24: Triestina 2-1 Lumezzane
At Stadio Tognon in Fontanafredda, Triestina and Lumezzane faced off, both teams coming off a draw and aiming to climb the upper ranks of the standings.
Tesser started Redan from the 1st minute alongside Lescano in attack, Fofana replaced the newlywed Correia in midfield, while Germano stepped in for the suspended Pavlev in defense. Overnight, Rizzo is also added to the unavailable list due to flu symptoms.
For the visitors, Franzini left out Ilari and Cannavò from the start, opting for a cautious 3-5-2 formation with the experience of Pisano, Pesce, and Moscati, and an attack led by the Gerbi-Capelli duo.
After an attempt by Fofana in the 11th minute, controlled by Galeotti, Celeghin narrowly missed the target, diverting a corner from D'Urso at the quarter-hour mark. In the 18th minute, a glaring chance for Triestina as Vallocchia's aerial deflection from Germano's cross hit the inside of the post, and Vallocchia's follow-up found Lescano off-balance, unable to score from close range.
Lumezzane's response came in the 20th minute with a dangerous low shot from Malotti at the edge of the box, Matosevic stretched to his left and tipped wide. At the half-hour mark, Capelli headed in for the visitors, but the goal was disallowed due to Gerbi's clear hold on Struna.
Franzini's tactical approach stifled Triestina, who dominated possession but frequently crashed against the visitors' defensive wall. The first half, marked by tough and cautious play, ended goalless.
Triestina started the second half more aggressively and hit the woodwork again in the 9th minute, with a deflected shot from D'Urso. A minute later, Celeghin's left-footed low shot from the edge of the box missed the bottom left corner. Triestina continued to press, and in the 11th minute, Lescano's powerful effort from a tight angle was deflected by a defender.
The visitors responded with a huge scare for Triestina, as Pesce's 25-meter strike in the 12th minute hit the left post. Lumezzane took the lead in the 17th minute, with a well-orchestrated move down the left freeing Regazzetti on the opposite side of the box, whose precise right-footed shot beat a diving Matosevic.
Triestina's fervent protests came in the 28th minute when El Azrak's shoyt from the edge of the box hit Ilari's outstretched arm in the area, but Gauzolino, just steps away, signaled play to continue. Shortly after, Fofana's 20-meter effort went just wide of Galeotti's right post. The visitors retreated into their own area, and Triestina pushed to break the bunker, with Adorante's seemingly certain goal in the 40th minute blocked by Pisano.
Triestina's relentless siege paid off in the first of the 5 minutes of stoppage time, when Adorante scored in a scramble following a corner. Two minutes later, Stadio Tognon erupted as Fofana scored a wonder goal from 25 meters with a stunning strike that left the visiting ‘keeper helpless.
The match ended in wild celebrations for Tesser's boys and the Triestina fans, as a splendid comeback in stoppage time propelled the team towards the top of the standings.
